1962 Dart 8 3/4 rear found

-
Well, since the 8 3/4" didnt debut in the A body until 1965, your unit would certainly be a replacement for that car! With that aside, any A body 8 3/4" rear will fit directly under any A body, any body style! There is a difference in the 1970 and later housing whereas the distribution block for the wheel cylinder lines was moved from right at the hump to further down on the drivers side axle tube, but other than that no other changes were made! What this block move will do is change the rubber flex hose requirements to put a 70 and later housing into an earlier car, as the body mount for the hard line to flex line union in a slightly different location! Other than that, they bolt right in!

I'm not up on all the years, bur weren't the 62's bigger cars? When did they change from the funky external hub nut on the axle to remove the drums?

62 was larger and had keyed drums with a retainer nut. A different set up than our a bodies.

62 dart was a B BODY, not A!!!!! yes wider rear, can be made to work in the A body, move the perches. the nut on axle 8 3/4 was pre 65.most people no not want that rear though...
the 62 A body dodge was Lancer... wrote all over it.

Would the early Dart rears (1962) fit up to the 1970's Mopar A bodies?

Sure, with a lot of work. It will be about 7 inches too long, it has tapered axles and the brake assembly is held on by a nut, and the perches would need moved.

But, it "might" have a suregrip center, so that's a plus.

Essentially, shorten the housing to A body length, install the perches in the proper place, you would need new axles and brake assemblies.
