Hey all,

I am in the process of getting my 63 dart 170 ready for paint and had a question. When I got the car it had already been partially disassembled. Both of the 170 emblems from the panels behind the rear side glass had been removed. One side had one barrel clip still installed.

My question is this, was there originally one barrel clip and one nut, or was there 2 barrel clips holding the emblems on? I am thinking 2 barrel clips as access to remove the nut would be difficult to impossible once the headliner was installed. If this is the case does anyone know the correct size of the barrel clips so I know I am ordering the correct ones?

Thanks in advance.

I have NOS emblems to put back on so I can't look at them to see if they were threaded on one side from a nut or not

The factory parts book lists 2 nuts and two seals for each emblem. On emblems using only one nut and a separate pilot stud, The pilot stud is quite a bit smaller than the one that takes a nut.

Thanks. I have seen the foam seal on the emblems I saw on ebay but could never seem to find a clear picture to see if there were threads on the studs. Some seemed to but others did not. I wonder why my car had a barrel clip installed. The car was original paint and looks to have never been touched other than the removal of the emblems

So, I was digging through my boxes of parts (mostly broken junk parts) that came with my dart today and tucked in the bottom corner I found an old tube. Inside I found the original sail panel emblems. Ironically they are in really nice shape (of course as I bought a NOS pair...lol).

What I discovered looking at them is that this car did in fact use the barrel clip on one end of the emblem. The other had the foam and the nut. The end with the nut had obvious marks from the nut and the other (where I found the barrel clip) had no mark for a nut, just scuffs as it would have scraping against a barrel clip. As this car was original paint and never touched (original 60,000mile car) I don't believe it would have been changed at some point.

Now to figure out the right size and order one. I'll post a picture later once I get a chance to take one.

Also have to decide which I like the look of better after paint too. The originals had more of a gold background and the NOS pair are painted black. Thinking the black due to the interior color and the dark exterior color but we will have to see.
