I have a 1967 BB 727 trans that may have some rusted internal components. Stored outside for a time. Have not taken it apart for inspection.
I have a 1979 SB 727 (non-lockup) from a B200 van that is in good condition.
Are the 1979 727 internals compatible with the 1967 727 BB housing?

I did find this:
Tom Hand, "1971 saw introduction of the wider front clutch bushing that eliminated premature ring and drum wear." Difference between 1970 and 1971 kits has to do with the front clutch bushing. Inner seals for front clutch changed along with bushing in 1971. Does not look like any external component dimensions changed.

Yes I believe so.
Several pieces internally are different
but all internals will fit.

That trans might have the HD planetaries but
I am not certain they do.

Do not mix up the planetary gears and main shaft between the two. The 73 and down planetary spline angle is different.

The "late planetary" will go on the "earl shaft", but you'll tear the splines out!

You can assemble the early BB block case with the "guts" from the later transmission. Use EVERYTHING, if your going this rout including the pump! Less, the servos, as "the early front servo is better than the latter." Do not mix the internals up with the early components!

The 79 stator support and input shaft may be a "3 ring" rather than a "2 ring" I'd have to look at the book. If you need some picture I can post some tomorrow.

Lastly, you'll want a four clutch drum if the donner transmission doesn't have one, or you can cut down the pressure plate and use some thinner steels.

The cheaper overhaul kits have mustard colored friction discs. These are paper. If you use an oem radiator and the cooler fails water will dissolve the friction material.

If you are doing this yourself....you should have Tom Hand's and Carl Monroe's books in-hand. You'll be able to read them both, understand the challenges you'll face, and come out with a winner.
Post #3 above is golden as well.
