1968 340 engine VIN 8B37941

I have the 68 340 engine that I'm close to to selling to a local buyer. I was curious to see if the motor had a VIN stamped on before I let it go. Well after a little clean up I found that it is stamped with 8B379412 If any knows if the car is still be out there then let me know. I rather see the engine get reunited with the car that it came from.

shouldn't it be stamped on a little pad low on the passenger side of the car ?

Not in 68. 1969 and later engines had the pad on the passenger side of the block down near the pan rail. The 68's were in the back next to the trany bellhousing.
