1968 440/727 junkyard motor value?

I sold a 67 date coded 440 with matching 727 years ago on craigslist for 500 bucks. Some guy from Washington came all the way down here to Arizona to get it. He needed it for the whole date code thing, his car was a 67 Coronet.
 
68 69 70 71 440 727 builders complete 1000 If you are talking salvage 400.
 
Its a good rebuildable core, not locked up. Everything from carb to pan fan to slip yoke.
 
may wanna pull the intake and head anc heck it out and go from there, if it seems good, then go for it!

Yes, if it's not cracked. If you don't hear it run or tear it apart to see how would you know? No way would I ever lay down that kind of money unless it either had a guarantee in writing or I could pull it apart and check it out.
 
Not to hijack this thread but I have a similar question but a 78 440 out of a motorhome, around 50,000 miles on it if I remember right.
