I bought this car last October, I didn't get to drive it much before it got put away for the winter.
Once I put it away, I started with the idea I would freshen up the engine with a 340 I had started building20 years earlier for another mopar project. The bottom end was put together and pistons installed then it got oiled down and wrapped in a garbage bag for approximately 20 years.
My plans are to set the original engine aside and eventually rebuild it and put it back in the car. After months of ordering parts and putting the engine together, I pulled the old tired engine out, cleaned up the engine bay a little and gave it a fresh coat of urethane paint. I installed a new updated wiring harness, new steering box power steering lines and pump. I also made up some new stainless steel brake lines and transmission lines.
I installed the fresh engine and fired it up, made a few adjustments and I am very happy with the way it sounds and runs. I also installed a new stainless exhaust and new stainless tips.
After completing the engine I started on replacing a lot of the chrome. Mirrors, door handles, grille and headlight bezels, hood inserts, side markers, fender turn signals, new tail lights and trim. Then I started on the trunk finish panel. I started by stripping the paint off of it, repairing the dings that were in it, buffing all of parts that should be buffed, taped it off, primed it and painted it. I am very happy with the way it turned out.
At this point it is almost ready to start driving as I continue to improve on what I can.
