While replacing hoses on a 1969 340 cid engine I discovered the intake manifold nipple OD is 1 inch while the water pumper nipple OD is 7/8 inch. See attached picture.
As you might expect the replacement hose (Gates 19605) fits the water pump perfectly but not the intake manifold. My plan is to downsize the intake manifold nipple to 7/8 inch. I can't come up with any reason not to make this change given the bypass hose basically just bypasses the thermostat until the engine warms up.
Does anyone know of a reason why I shouldn't proceed with a nipple swap?
