I like what this guy has done with the 1967 GT panel.
Obviously, it is not correct. But it looks like it could work for the right person....

It goes with the black bumble stripe.

There is a type of plastic that looks black but light passes thru it. We had a sign on our building that was black during the day and white at night.

That would carry the black through.

I kind of like it
