I picked up a 340 engine to put in my 67 cuda. From what I can tell from the numbers on the pad on the lt front of engine.
FW31 (340 weak stamping?) F=1970, W=Windsor
30270506. the first 4 numbers 3027 are the assy date? monday Nov 10 1969. the second 4 are engine build number? 0506. 506th engine built at that factory that year? or 340 built?
block casting number 5-26-69, day shift, about 12noon.

now the serial on the pan rail, no idea how to decode.
appears to be an 0 (K or R) only bottom slashes are able to be read followed by a 162022. are these the end of aerial or order number. anyway to find out what it came out of? or bingo anyone?

Really, i'm just bored and know some are looking for their factory engines...

The number on the Oil Pan Rail (passenger side of engine) is part of the VIN for the car it came from originally.

They started doing that in 1968, it's how you can tell if a Car and its Engine are Numbers Matching

Above the oil pan would be a 0 indicating it is out of a 70 model year car followed by mabe a B or R? assembly plant, and then the 6 digit sequence # that would be the same as the last 6 on the vin#

looking at it again. 0R162022, would be 0= 1970 R= Windsor (the top of R is missing but looking at 69 assy plant codes it has to be an R) and 162022 is last 6 of VIN. Cool thanks!
I was more wondering if this engine might belong to someones 340 car that is missing the original engine block, and is looking for it. Engine was purchased in the Pac NW.
