I am in process or restoring my 70 340 Swinger vent window assemblies. I am disassembling the components to be re-chromed. I have removed the assemblies from the car. The long chrome bar that seals against the A pillar and roof rail seal for the LH side was attached to the vertical galvanized window with only the 6-32 and the 10-24 screw at the very top. The bradded die cast had released years ago. I had to grind the brads off on the RH side to separate the galvanized window guide. Are the brads crucial to use if I cannot brad them again? There isn't much left on a few of them, also what technique should be used to re brad? I thought about drilling and tapping to use screws instead of the brads but the die cast is maybe 1/8" inch thick. Due to the thickness I feel it is risky and the screw must be a perfect length otherwise the roof rail gasket will be destroyed. I know someone else has encountered this.
