I’m in the process of restoring my heater control unit on my non-A/C 70 swinger 340, and I’ve got it almost completely disassembled, but I’m stumped by these black retaining caps on the main pivot point. Does anyone know how to remove these without breaking them? I bought a rebuild kit, and these black caps were not included, so cutting them off is not on option. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If the kit includes a new center pin, cut the head off the OEM pin. If the kit didn't include either of the 2 pieces, send it back with a note, "try again".

Unfortunately it did not. The kit only comes with the 2 small pins and the sliders

Many have waited long for reproduction glides for this controller. The 2 cable driving pins can be replaced with screws (been there done that). It's a darn shame they didn't get the kit right. Then again, they don't always get it right the first time. I don't know if I've defeated that retainer b4 or not. If someone else doesn't chime in, I can go have a go at it.

Thats what i thought about the 2 little glides/shoes that are needed. I dont think it ever happened.
This is the company I bought the kit from.

They included 2 snap rings in the kit. I’m starting to suspect those are what replace those black caps. I emailed the company, waiting for a reply…
