1972 Dodge Colt

I was in Ohio last week.
I drove over to Brewers and picked up some parts.
Can't say enough good things about Dan and his service.
They must have a thousand transmissions, parts and cool stuff!
I picked up everything I need to get the 3.09 transmission put together.
I got an aluminum main case, tailshaft extension, input bearing and billet throwout retainer.

Not going to say anything bad about passon.
But not going to say anything good either.
Two months wasted waiting.

Dan's a super good guy. I love the fact that the business owner is in a dirty tee shirt and actually WORKING. That speaks volumes of his character. Plus, he always shows up HERE with a helping hand when needed.

As for Passon, we have a whole horror story thread about him on here. Nothing more needs to be said.

Had an issue with the aluminum tailshaft housing.
It looks like it was an auto OD tailshaft housing.
I say that because the standard yoke bushing would not fit.
So I spoke with Dan and sent it back to be machined for the standard bushing.
There is a lot of material there.
Its weird because it's not cast with a speed-o provision.

I got the main case put together while I wait for the tailshaft housing to return.

Also assembled the 2.47 case iron transmission to sell.
It's in an A Body case.
It's for sale.

Please elaborate on it being an "auto" tail housing. There is not any intercahangable. I'm probably not getting it, lol. At least you ate making progress!! Thanks for the updates.

So from what I know there is a Auto vs Truck OD variation.
The cast iron truck OD I had a couple of years ago used the larger front driveshaft yoke.
I have a passenger auto OD here that uses the smaller front driveshaft yoke.
I hope that is a little clearer.

They keep on showing up on FaceBook.

I had changed the clutch master cylinder out a month ago.
Waiting on the trans I never hooked it up.
I started to go through the install and low and behold, they have chenaged the OD of the piston rod.
It was 3/8 now it is 5/16.
Problem is the pedal is setup for a 3/8 bolt.
No one makes a 5/16 24 rod end bearing with a 3/8 ball bore.
I might can take the new cylinder apart and swap the rod out, but it's new and I hate to do that.
Not sure the bore seal on the end would take the 3/8 vs 5/16.
So I became a machinist today and made a bushing for the rod end ball end on the petal.
This will slip into the petal hole and change that hole from 3/8 to 5/16.
I took a 3/8 bolt, cut the head off, center drilled it to 5/16 and then cut the drilled bolt end off.
A little file work and it looks like it will work.
I really have a hard time drilling on center, but lucked out on this one.
Real even margin all around on the bushing.

I finished up the 3.09 transmission.
I decided to use my Direct Connection extension housing.
I need to take advantage of some of the cooler weather and make a few passes this year.

The Liberty gear set was hard to get into the case.
Like an Overdrive transmission, the cluster has to be in the bottom of case to get the main shaft in.
The paddles/dogs on 3rd gear hit the cluster gear, so you need to make some space.
Dropping the cluster down has some problems of it's own.
The brass shims want to go everywhere but when they need to be.
So I got the idea to gasket tack them in place and then pull the cluster into position.
Helps a lot.
I hope to get the box back in tomorrow.

Looks great, Stan! Maybe it will make the difference!

Rusty, it can't hurt!
With some Weber changes, new 1st gear, higher rev limit, and a heavier foot, it will go or blow!
