Just bought myself a nice lil 72 swinger n the timing is all wrong. I can't find the specs any info would be great. It a 318 car.

7 degrees before top dead center (BTDC) with the distributor vacuum line disconnected and plugged is a good starting point. The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Hope this helps.

I just moved mine up to 12 btdc and it runs real strong and doesn't start hard.
Use ported vacuum not full, and as stated above remove vac to dist. when timing.
72 Swinger stock 318

So this begs the question, how do you tell if it's the correct ported vacuum? Or are all the vacuum outlets on the manifold either "correct" ported or full?

Question comes about cause of problems getting the vacuum advance on the dist working correctly after swapping over to elec dist.

At idle put your fingertip over the port, ad if you feel vacuum, it is the full time port. This is usually the port on the base of the carb. The port on the main body us usually the part time port.
