1973 Dart factory color of power steering gear box

Was the factory original color of the power steering gear box natural cast iron or black paint? I found conflicting answers on a search of this forum. Thank you

Cast with no paint. manual boxes were aluminum mo paint. Everyone that I ever removed were rusted or greasy or clean iron I never saw any remnants of paint unless someone painted them.

I just replaced mine on a 72'. I know it was the original and it was painted black. Do know about and 73 model.

I don't know about replacements. But I have a lot of them here on the shelf from cars and I see no paint at all. But They are 50 years old. rust and grease is all I see.
Could they have had Paint? Its possible. But I don't see any. I am sure someone that does pure resto's will chime in.
