Hey guys I need an idea on a purchase. I know this is not an A body but since we fly the Mopar banner here figured it would be a good place to get an opinion. A guy in my area is selling a 78 Dodge dually. I have not laid eyes on it yet just a couple of CL pics. According to him it was picked up from a wrecking yard with a bent drive shaft. The guys says it runs and drives (probably with fluids and battery). He said it was a 440, I do know they could have been optioned with the 400. Either way not a big deal, although 440 would make me happier. It is two wheel drive and an auto. He said he put another driveshaft in it from a similar truck. It appears to be all there. He is asking 2300 for it, I will try to beat him down some. I know it is not something that pops up for sale everyday. Question is, is it worth the trouble. I don't mind getting it and possible cleaning it up and reselling it. I don't really have use for a dually, although cant deny the cool factor. Just wondering what your thoughts are. Thanks

Limited market for an old gas sucking WORK HORSE

but if the body is in good shape and it doesn't need 6 tires, at least a grand for good tire, it would be a good truck for someone

Might get 10 mpg so it will be thirsty

There are people into truck that might want it to restore, but are you going to be willing to sit on it. What do you think you would end up in it if you can buy for say $2000?

Then ask yourself, would I pay X for it?

Buy it and Retro fit it with a first gen Cummins !! Mine get 22mpg. I love it !!

I do not have a immediate use for it, as far as using it as a pick up truck. Then again I don't have a use for my Dakota (which is my DD) either as far as using it as a pick up truck. I already figured on it being thirsty (not exactly happy about it). Then again my dart is thirsty. I know there is a market for it, the question is will it sink me. I suppose its worth a look at. Considering he has a couple 64-5 Barracudas for sale too.

I did consider the Cummins route, if it turned out to be a small block. Still not out of the equation. With new trucks out of reach price wise, the older ones get more tempting everyday. It is extended cab which makes it more tempting.

1977 flat bed with a 440 and granny low :glasses7:
It's super cool but only to a Mopar guy.

I have a friend who has one locally about the same year. 440, 727, dually and it has the bed and all. Survivor truck you might say. They are nice trucks. If it's solid and running and driving, it's well worth what he's asking.
