Forgot to say that large Left door decal is not presently on truck. Had taken truck to the Mopars with Don Garlitts in Ocala, FL where Left door was vandalyzed. Had to have Left door repainted and haven't bought the decal to re-apply yet. Will post a couple more pics .

wood in the bed of these truck WASN'T varnished from the factory........was just the cheapest pine Dodge could get their hands on that was then painted red. This wood was new two years ago.

OR would trade truck UP with cash, or down, for a Drop-Frame-Van semi trailer similar to the one pictured in the link below:

http://www.truckpaper.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=2737245&dlr=1&pcid=2000667274

Must be 102 inches wide trailer and at least 51 feet long, 53 feet preferable.
Must have solid aluminum roof instead of with translucent materials designed to allow light into trailer(and leak later)
Must be painted white recently and be without decals or have ones that are easily removable
Must have 17.5 inch rear wheels and tires instead of 19.5 or 22.5 inch ones.
Reefer unit and/or 5000+ pound liftgate on rear of trailer OK
Would like one big set of double doors on both the curbside and roadside of the trailer

I know that's awfully specific criteria, but you never know what someone might have that they would trade for a nice Li'l Red.

63 valiant*KISS : what is the value of the truck? you that are experienced tell me what you think?????????

It's very tight. Now look at the picture CLOSELY of the picture of the truck from the Left frontend where the truck is setting infront of the apartment building. Can you guys see where the lower Front portion of the L door is a richer color(different) from the rest of the door?????
After the clown scratched the Left door at the Garlitts show I had to wait over a month to get it in to the "only guy who could do it right " in this area who repainted the Left door. While at it he cut out an approximately 3 inch x 3 inch section of metal down close to that corner that was getting thin and Re-welded in a section of metal before repainting the door. So the left door looks perfectly repainted now and matches rest of truck. I just haven't put the left door decal on(which I haven't bought either).......and I may not....may try to convert truck's looks and performance back to how it was originally intended when it appeared in the Nov. 1977 Hot Rod article titled "wild-horses" ......"a truck that hauls more than freght" had W-2 heads and no cosmetics treatment.

Ok, now look at the Right side door in the other picture and you can see where the paint is also richer down in its lower front corner......that part of door has a little bondo in it where I repainted the door and you can see the difference in color. The professional here in the area that did the L door would prolly do the right on with the re-welding for under $500.00

What else can I remember here? uuuuuummmmh I have put all new seals and wiskers around both door windows in the last year(that's the wiskers that go around the tops and sides of each window glass on the doors and also the inside and outside lower side window seals that are to keep water from going down the door at the bottom of the glass. Two new engine belts two weeks ago.

the engine performs strong
I may replace both valve cover gaskets soon
I have a somewhat used Calcarcovers Noah car cover for truck that goes with it as well as the original working radio that will be traded for the present AM/FM radio outta my 98 Ram . Will trade the new owner the orig. radio when THEY take the 98 one outta the dash.
Have new frame rubber materials that go over the left and right frames next to each manifold(bought them at mopar nationals several years ago

When I look at the newsstands at the muclecar values books they publish they have consistently quoted higher than I'm asking. enough higher that I believe that my price is fair when considering the economy.

I've had truck ten years and had a blast but want to own and then re-sell other mopes too. Anyone chime in on what you think value of this truck should be, or make offers. ? this AIN'T no #1 show truck.....but a nice and fun driver. OH, important thing I need to tell is the chrome wheels look like they are very nice from the pics.....but up close you will see they have begun the early stages of the chrome rusting.......up close you can see they will want to go south in the very near future. Rubber was new 1.5 years ago .

Much better than the looks of this truck is the AWESOME SOUND it has at idle with the cast iron manifolds and the cherry bomb mufflers on it. these combined with the stock 1968 high performance 340 cam the truck has just sounds great.

No stokerscamp: I bought it from a retired Indiana State Trooper 45 miles NW of Fort Wayne Indiana back in 2000 who had just spent a bunch on it and was moving to Vegas and had to move it.

Bout 1.5 years ago had to put a new sending unit on it that runs the oil pressure gauge.....was horrible job where had to acutually stand on the ground while inside the engine compartment(leg between frame and engine) to be able to reach back there by the distributor and had to make a special wrench to tighten it with the top of the tranny and cab in the way. Recognize anyone interested that it's a NON-A/C truck .

OH, recently went to a junkyard and found a 7 inch spare rim to fit any of the four hubs......sanded it all down and painted it gloss black and new valve stem(no tire on the rim yet) this will be the spare as these trucks didn't come from the factory with a spare tire, the stock factory jack that fits in the engine compartment WON'T screw up and I've worked it and worked it with penetrating oil......its condition looks reasonably good in external appearance......just can't make it go up

TWICE, now(most recent last week) I've taken the cowl piece in front of the front window off to get at the winshield wiper motor where that little plastic clip that attatches the winshield wipers to the motor has come loose after it deteriorated.....so that shoudn't happen again for some time

The price is very fair for sure. If times were better I'm sure someone would have the coin for it, no problem. Other LRE trucks that I've seen still need body, paint and some mechanical. They run from $5K to $8K. Then add the cost of stripping the truck down for a proper body and paint and then reassemble it all. $14K for your truck is a very good deal.

That's a very nice truck but you might be asking a little too much for it. You can't go by kelly blue book, mopar magazines, barrett jackson etc. The real values are found online. All you have to do is check craigslist, ebay, other forums like dodge connection etc. I've been researching Dodge pickups for over a year now. LRE's that need work are going for $5-8k. Done up nicely in driver condition are fetching $8-10k. Real nice and even better than driver quality are going $10-12k. Over that it gets a little crazy because you never know what the big money guys are going to spend. I'd say yours is in the $10-12k range for sure. It looks to be driver quality but it also has a lot of things about it that are nicer than a driver.

Either way, free bump.

ESP47 : Are you looking to buy a 1978 Dodge Li'l Red Express Truck at this time??

I have the original 1978 radio to trade the new owner for the stereo in the dash in the pictures which is from my 1998 dodge ram 4x4 . Also have the rubber covers that go over the frame next to the engine that are new.......they will go with truck .

OK , so we can part this truck out on here to help those of you considering whether its worth it to buy the $4500 dollar 78 that "needs restored" rather than missing out on all the restoration fun of buying this complete truck.

absolutely beautiful truck. price doesn't sound too bad, but,it is in the market the way it is now. it's just not 2007 anymore.
there are lots and lots of cars/trucks for sale, many happy to refer to NADA,kelly blue book, etc. problem is,those prices are a joke. as said,it's what the vehicles are trading hands for. what others on the internet are "asking" for theirs, isn't a good guideline, especially when they are not selling.
for example,if there are 10 specific vehicles for sale on the net,all listed between $10K-$15K, and not selling, and 10 of those same vehicles, are trading hands for $6K-$8K, guess which 10 ARE NOT changing hands?
i wish you luck on the sale, but,if you really aren't hurting for the money, might ought to sit on it for a while, maybe the market will rebound.
also,that $4500 lil red isn't selling either..........FYI.

superbyrd: i don't understand what all that you just wrote has to do with parting the truck out??

oh,i appoligize. by all means, yes, part it out. probably be able to get some money out of it in parts. that is definitely the best route for you.
i would agree that parting the truck would be far better than posting the truck for sale,at an inflated (by the open market) price, not getting anyone to even take a sniff of it,then, sarcastically offering to "part it out", (much like a pissed off child stomping it's feet in a huff) yep, your on the right track.
i was merely commenting on a nice truck, the cold hard truth, and wishing you luck. you chose to respond the way you did. so did i. again, good luck.

Actually I know several people who love to restore and bring vehicles back to life. When they have completed the restoration on whatever they are building at the time, they get bored with the vehicle quickly and sell it.

Me.... I'm the opposite. Give me a completed vehicle that I can cruise with right away. I'll change out small things over time...... when and if I can find the time. lol

very nice truck dude, and all of you have made good points except for the fact that they are posting this on a car site, when the should go to machopowerwagon.com and post it for sale. the economy sucks, i cant even sell my 71 2dr swinger dart for 1700 bucks no bodies biting, and the guy with the 4500 bucks one thinks the 79 warlock and the 78 step side are better to keep then the lre, ppl just dont have money or they do and dont wanna let go of it, but yeah i guess if you can live with cutting up a classic a rare truck by all means. ill give you 10 bucks for the cherry bombs, but i agreee with the other guy quit getting pissed that it aint selling, it prolly wont sell, ppl dont have the cash and gas is way too high. but you have a very nice truck id kill to have one, i have a 78 dodge 4x4 and i love it, youd be more wise to drive it and enjoy it.

Hey Buddy; No need to get upset,I have some high dollar parts that are not selling now either. You have a nice truck and I really don't think people can justify spending a boatload of money right now.The reality of this economy has all of us on edge,so please don't take it out on fellow enthusiasts. We didn't bail anybody out and we didn't hand it to the entitled. We all must deal with it.Good Luck with the sale

Wylde1: back in march i had lowered the price a "big-buck" from 14K to $13,000.00

do wish I could find some comparable sells of nice 78s....but they just aren't there.......many 79s sell at various dealerships and jockeys regularly
