They were open chamber with the big pushrod holes? Were they 308 heads?

That's the cruddy part: I was interested enough to notice "huh, not 302s" and "huh, open chambers", but didn't take the time to photograph them or jot down the casting number :-( Sorry

Remember its a roller cam engine im working with. .420" sounds fair for a street daily engine?

Why would he have to change his rockers to run a flat tappet hyd cam in that engine?
I think all you need is the cam, lifters, pushrods and valve springs.
The 340 intake will have bigger intake ports than the 318 heads.
