1994 Dakota is getting this G3 in a few weeks

Frist very sorry for the loss of your friend. Very cool to see somebody elese building a gen3 hemi dakota. If I missed it what are you going to use for a oil pan? I am in the process of installing a 650-700 hp stroked 6.1 hemi into my 91 Dakota sport race truck. My engine came with a rear sump drag pack pan. The sump was long enough I had to cut out some of the front engine frame cross support. Holley makes a very nice transmission crossmember for the hemi engine swap. I used it when I was running the 360 magnum/904 in my 91. Oh I have got to try them yet. But soposedaly a set of long tube headers for a 5.7 hemi jeep will work. I look forward to reading about your dakota build.
Thanks, as for the oil pan, I'm using just a rear sump oil pan and I anticipate the use of my plasma and MIG. I will look into the 5.7 Jeep headers--what year? J.Rob

2006-2010 SRT8 jeep. Here is a pick of the right side header. Also are you on Facebook? If so there is a group for gen3 hemi swaped first gen dakotas. Not my oil pan but there are a few selling hemi swap oil pans on there.

if you wanted to go to 5 bolt wheels, the rear axle from a ford exployer works great. I got mine from a 97. The ford 8.8 is a little narrower than the factory dodge axle. The only down side is you will have to move the spring perches in and weld on shock mounts. I cut the shock mounts of the dodge axle and welded them onto the ford.

Sorry I missed wear you said you had a pan. I bought a holley swap pan, that I was going to use. But the engine I bought came with a rear sump drag pack pan. So I decided to use it instead.

Jesse,
have you built a serious gen 3's in the 800-850 hp range? N/A of course. a couple of guys in my racing circle over here are wondering about them.

No I can't say that I have. I do have a personal build underway that should make pretty serious power though it won't be complete for at least another calender year.
I posted it on Moparts months ago. I will follow up once I open my laptop. I despise using my phone for posting. J.Rob

My upcoming build for my D150 5spd/Shorty:
New 6.2L Hellkitty Block Bore @ 4.125"
New 6.4L Steel Crank Offset Ground/Nitrited 3.800" x 1.850" Rod Journal Dia
Pankl 6.200" Rods/ .708" Pin
Custom Mahle or Diamond Pistons (Turnaround time will dictate whom @ time of order)
11.8-12.0 comp target
New Apache Cyl Heads with a little bowl work only and the just released Melling Spring Kit for G3's (Wow is this spring kit nice and comprehensive)
Summit BigGun 5743 Camshaft 244/251 .625"/.625" 116 LSA ( I want this driveable)
Comp Short Travel HR Lifters
Manton Rocker Shafts/New Stock Rockers although PRW has the new Hemi rockers available (I liked what I saw @ PRI)
Ritter DrapPack Intake modified W/4500>4150 HVH Adapter
Holley 950 Dominator GB Carburetion / Modified (Why a Dominator? 'Cuz I've always wanted one and this should be enough motor to warrant one)

Projected power should be well north of 600HP @ 7300-7500RPM Maybe 700ish if the planets align. Hemis aren't really known for great torque production and I'm just fine with that in this case. Probably make 550lbs. This will be coupled with a Tremec TKX so not interested in the stoplight drag scene. I live on a great, newly paved twisty hwy along the St.Lawrence river and it is populated in the summertime with all kinds of exotics and muscle (Porsches/Merc AMG/BMW's/Vipers/Pro-Touring Muscle/and disproportionate amount of VW Golf R's < which I find weird) J.Rob

What would be the next step to be in the 800 hp area? Strictly drag race application.
I guess ported heads, more compression, and larger camshaft?

Comp Short Travel HR Lifters

Any personal experience with these?

I've been planning to use new OEM lifters since all the aftermarket G3 replacement stuff so far has a less than stellar record. I even have new set of suspect lifter I plan to through away. But I the Comp one's are fairly new and I wondered if they would be a good replacement as (I think) they are still $150 less than the OEM's.

Cool build! Ill be checking back on this thread often. I'm also building a hemi dakota, it's a 96 2wd SWB. I rebuilt an 08 5.7 with a comp 268 cam and holley shorty headers. Using a 46re trans and an 8.75 w/391s. A Holley terminator x will be in charge of it all. Doing body work on it now

Hey RAMM any new updates on the hemi dakota Build? I finally got some metal bought so I can weld up the frame notch i cut.
