2.71 SG 8 3/4 Exsist?

I'm looking into buying a 8 3/4 center section from a 742 case for $100. The guy says its a 2.71 gear on the tag. I can't find that Chrysler used that ratio anywhere in their history of sure grip 8 3/4's. Someone enlighten me before I make a bad purchase!

2.76 Sure-grips exist.

The gear ratio is stamped into the radius of the ring gear as well.

But he said the casting code was lik 2070742 or w/e so I know it from a 742. Its just the gearing doesnt sound rite like you guys stated. Something is fishy and not just because its Lent

I've got a 742 with 2.76 gears and the clutch style sure grip sitting in my
garage. It was sold to me as a 3.23 and had an old cut off center section
bolted to it. I was to lazy to check it until a year and a half later when I
finally got around to installing it. Now I've got a 3.55 3rd member for it
except the concrete on the garage floor is too cold for my old bones.
