26" radiator in my 1974 360 dart sport, this came with the car. Should i be running a good 22" radiator?

There’s nothing wrong with that radiator, unless your radiator support has a 22” opening, then you’re giving up a little airflow. You having any specific problems with the 26”?

No problems so far new car to me and noticed spaced off with washers. Also noticed 22" notch in radiator support. Think someone threw in what they had.

Question for those that know..

If a 73 has a 22 inch opening does that mean it was originally a slant 6?

As mentioned, 26" is correct for '73+, at least the V8s. If it was an original slant 6, I dunno.
Wouldn't worry about the spacers too much- if it's an aftermarket radiator, the mounting flanges usually aren't quite right and require some "finessing".
Dana, you beat me to the question!

My book shows 3 different radiators, all for 360, and all 26”. No 22” radiators for 360 in 1974.

3692912 with manual trans
3692923 both trans with A/C
3692925 both trans no A/C

Do any of these match your current radiator?

In 1973/74, a /6 could come with a 19”, a 22”, or a 26” with N51 max cooling. Oddly enough, the 318 could come with a 19” or a 26”, with A/C or N51. But no 22” for 318.

If you can give us the first 6 digits on the dash vin plate that would help.
Looks like a aftermarket replacement radiator without the original shroud.
Does that look like a disconnected AC hose on right side?

No harm will come from running a 26" radiator in front of a radiator support that has an opening for a 22" radiator. I've had a 26" radiator in my '74 Duster since I converted it to a v8 from the original /6, and it had a 22" radiator from the factory. Yes, you lose a little bit of airflow at driving speeds, but typically if you're going more than 25 mph you shouldn't have an airflow issue anyway. And at idle, with a good fan shroud the fan will pull air across the entire core anyway. And typically idle or slow speed driving is the problem, and the fan is doing all the work then.

I'd be more concerned about the fact that the radiator in there appears to be a single core. I mean seriously, it's barely half the width of the radiator cap. Definitely not anything factory for one of these cars, they were all at least 2 row and that makes them at least as wide as the cap.

I believe factory 360 cars came with 26" 3 row radiators.

LM29L4 yes it is an A/C car, I have the compressor and brackets.

I mean this is easy to solve, just take a tape measure to the radiator support opening. By the numbers it should be close to 26" wide.

It doesn't matter a bunch, the 26" radiator core width would still work with the smaller opening, but that car should have the larger opening. Still doesn't mean that super thin radiator is gonna work though, and it's not a factory 26" radiator.

L code on dash vin plate means it's a 360.
Measure the radiator opening between the grille and the radiator.
Measurement should be close to 26 inches.
How many fan blades do you have?

Can't help with radiator but the original 26 inch fan shroud is part number 3691909, fan drive 3769616 and 7 blade metal 20 inch fan 3462149.
