It also depends on the year. I think the mid to late 70s aluminium bell housings were the same for 4 speeds and 3 speeds. Right?
Some had the dual bolt pattern, but he didn't ask about that. He asked if the 4 speed will fit on a 3 speed bell. It will not. The only ones I have ever seen with the dual bolt pattern were for the OD and had the 5.125 opening for the large bearing retainer.
