Hi guys, I was looking to find a 3 speed for my 1972 duster twister because that is what came factory, what should I be looking for? I was told it should be long shaft instead of a short staff, also could I use the shifting linkage from a 4 speed to a 3 speed? I’m guessing they are going to be different lengths but that’s why I am asking, thank you again!

Lets start with........

Column shift or floor shift?

D13 on your fender tag or?

The only 4-speed linkage that is the same on a 3-speed is for 1970 B-bodies.

The 4 gear 1-2 rod is the same as the R-1 rod & the 3-4 rod becomes the 2-3.

OK, what do you have now, any of the parts at all? I know I have some of the A-body specific stuff.

I was going to look at a 3 speed someone has close by me and I was wondering what to look for to make sure it’s for an a body and if it was long/short shafted

Look for PP230 stamped on the flat pad stamped in the passenger side of the case & a single shifter mounting point.

If it has dual mounts, it is a B & E body unit.

If it has a top loader bolt on cover, just turn & walk away.
