alright I'm wanting to do a manual 3 speed on the steering column swap to an A-833 4 on the floor and i've been trying to get some info on it but just cant seem to come up with too much that really helps me out so I was just wondering if you guys could fill me in on some of the details.

(oh and i'm doing this swap on my 69 Charger with a 318 if that helps any.)

like can I use the bellhousing right now from my 3 speed on a 4?
what do I do with the steering column and all the linkages that go to the tranny?
Am I going to need any extra parts besides the new shifter and the linkages for it?
can I use the same clutch?
just any info along those lines

also if you guys could recommend some places to check out for these parts
or help me out with any other details I might need to know it'd be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
anthony

Brewers has all your 4-speed needs, awesome stuff!!

On your steering column, you could just change it out for a floor shift one but they are spendy. You don't need to use any of the 3-speed linkage rods. Or what I did with mine was cut the tabs off for the linkages and make a tin cover and cover it up, looks factory.

Bellhousing should have bolt holes for the 3 and 4 speed. You may need a new shift fork and z-bar/bell crank? Not too keen on my B-body stuff. Call brewers, they can answer EVERY question you have!!

That Charger you have has a 3 on the tree? how cool and rare must that be? I know a 3 speed isn't as cool as a 4 speed but I would check first and see how many they made that way. I think it would be worth leaving like it is.

If you have a dual pattern bellhousing you can use it if the 4 speed bearing retainer is the same size as the 3 speed (don't get an OD tranny). The clutch and linkage will work. You will need a B/E body 23 spline input shaft transmission and a 4 speed or 727 front yoke for the driveshaft. A hole in the floor and a shifter and rods should get you down the road. Remove the column shift rods and leave them on the 3 speed. You don't need to swap columns unless you want to. The speedometer gears and cable will even swap from the 3 speed and the reverse light wiring is the same. Hope this helps.

I think these set ups were fairly common because i remember on some site i saw production numbers for them and if i'm not mistaken alot of the 318 chargers came with em.

thanks for the interest though!
