I have a 3 speed transmission on a 70 duster 340.One guy told me that the 3 speeds where built real strong and I had nothing to worry about{tearing the transmission out of the car}.The car is about 350 hp.Has anyone had problems with the 3 speed tansmission?

In 1970, Mopar made their 3-speeds stronger than the previous version. This enable them to be used behind 340 & 383 engines as the base trans in cars with 4-speed & auto optional. You could have even got a C-body with the 383 with a 3-speed (on the column of course). So to answer your question, Yes it should be able to handle 350hp but I wouldn't push it pass 400hp.

Cool thanks for the info

I have thumped one pretty hard behind a 340 in a Duster, after a few years the only thing that was wrong with it, it would pop out of second gear if you let off the gas going down a steep hill.
Very strong transmissions.

Thanks for the info
