A buddy of mine that races at the same track runs 30x9x15 Hoosier radial drag tires on the back of his 68 Dart. The wheels are 10" wide with 5" backspacing. He runs stock suspension with the springs in the stock location and wheelwells are stock.
My point is I didn't they would fit but they do.
Is anyone else able to do this??
My 68 Dart is tight with 235x60x15 MT Drag Radials on 15x7 with 4.5 backspacing.

I bet that if you put a tape on the rear axle, it has been narrowed. On my 64, I had to narrow the axle almost 3 inches per side to fit 15x10's with 5" backspace (Same as your buddies). My 64 is not that much narrower (if at all) then that 68.

Thanks,

I'm running 15X8 w/245-60-15 on my '68 GTS. SS springs, but stock locations. It's VERY tight in there. Rubs on corners....

I'll bet, as Jeff pointed out, that there's been spring relocation, wheel wells ground down (prolly both if it looks "stock" to the eye).....something to accomodate 10".

Just my $.02

Isn't that a "u-do-it" mini-tub? If the springs are moved, and you have the correct offset wheels, you can squeeze them in there (until you bump up against the frame) w/o narrowing the rear end.....

Did I miss anything?

I also believe that something was done to that car to make them fit.
The 9" Tire would fit but the wheel size and Backspace doesnt make sense unless some work was done.

Here is a 15x10 with 5.5 back space on a 67 Dart.

This is before the Narrowing of the B Body Rear end which is approximately 1" wider on each side than a A BODY Rear.

Here it is Narrowed with a 325/50/15 on the 15x10 with 5.5 Backspace

...my point was, he is running 15x10 with 5 inches of backspace...I do not think you can run that without narrowing the rear axle. On mine and a few others here who are running a very similar wheel, we had to narrow the housing at least 3 inches per side. I cannot comment on the wheel well, mine is a 64 and may be different.

Thank you,

I do have a 70 Dart with no modifications that has a 14x7.5 with 4.25 Back space and a 265/60/14 tire and the section width is right at 10" with 9" of rubber on the ground. There is only enough room between the tire and the wheel lip to barely fit 1 finger in it. It NEVER has rubbed at all. You have approx 11.5" Stock from the inner tub to the wheel lip on an A Body. Do a Mini Tub and you are close to 15"
