Hi together,

today I calibrate my crankshaft. The result isn´t perfect.

Here are the dimensions.

main- bearings from 2.4992in to 2,5000in

rod- bearings from 2.1228in to 2.1232in

The main are okay I think but what is about the connecting- rod journals?

Is it possible to use the crank without grinding?

Not accordint to the specs in my 1973 manual. All of those dimensions are beyond the .001" tolerance. The rod journals are to be 2.124" min and the mains are 2.4995 min. You might get away with the mains, but the rods are too small in my opinion. Its cheaper to cut the crank than to repair damage.

I'd could and do use an undersize crankshaft all the time and it still makes us both happy!
Seroiusly, I'd run a 318 streeter crank, in a heartbeat, if the engine had a hi-volume oil pump, in it. It ain't that loose, that it'd scare me off, as long as it's surface is straight and clean.
My 550hp race 440 had .0035 plus clearence on the mains, and .0025 on the rods, with a standard volume oil pump and 10w30 Quaker State synthetic motor oil. Run that engine for 3 seasons and had no wear to speak of on any bearings.

That sounds really nice sst3191.
Maybe its possible for me, to grinding the crank at my company.
When the result isn´t good, I will buy a new one.
The whole engine will get new parts, so maybe grinding is necessary.
I will brief you about the result.
