318 question

New to Mopar....just bought a 70 duster roller...have access to 318 with 360 heads, mild cam...would this set up get me to the track for entry level beginner racing? Car also has 30" slicks and 518 gears. Not ready to do original 340 motor for budget reasons. Could use help on this question. Thanks..

Yes! Those gears are really steep. You will probably hit red line before you get to the end of the track. Do you have a trailer? Tune it, Check your fluids, and above all watch your Tach! Go and have fun.

Thanks....think after checking car over I'm going to bead blast car, then put car in primer, change brake and fuel lines and hey...make my hair stand up....with anyluck will trailer car to Adirondack Nationals at Lake George where anything goes!

Would it get you to the track? Yup, at about 45mph.

Seriously, for a 1/4 mile track that is a lot of gear. 4.10's and a shorter tire might make more sense.

Otherwise, bolt it together and have fun. Plenty of opportunities to throw money at it down the road when you think you want to go faster.

it's only a 4.30'sumthun with a 30'' tire, not bad.
