Hi guys ! does anybody as infos of what a cuda/barracuda 318 or duster 318 could run in those days ? time slips , etc..

ive been looking on internet and i never find anything specified to these models and specs besides the big engine sizes...
the 318 was not far from 200 hp and had more than 300 ft pd of torque if im not mistaken , never drove one stock but my barracuda came with this combo 318/3-speed standard ... looks like a fun combo for the street ,

I have a pretty good idea since I was around back then, but no documentation. The 318 those years had between 150 net hp up to maybe 170 for a really good runner. The 3spd cars came standard with 3.23's i'm pretty sure and that helped some. I know of two Duster's that had that combo and ran low 16's. One eventually added headers, 4bbl intake and carb and would run mid 15's with a G60-14 belted tire. Since the Cuda has 250/300lbs or so on them, id add a few tenths to that.

Like I said, no docs, just real world numbers I remember from the mid 70's.

They weren't fast by any means. They are nice cruisers though. In 72, they changed from gross to net hp ratings. This is why you see the huge drop in numbers between 71 and 72. The engines didn't really make that much less hp...they were just raited differently.

When is the last time you saw a stock restored 318 car? I went back to stock with my Challenger. The only thing I changed was the exhaust. Now I wish I would have kept the stock single exhaust...really. The BB and 340 cars will always get the attention at shows but I'm glad I did what I did. I like seeing things that are different.

You wanted to see some more pics so here it is...it starts off pretty nasty.

I can still remember being "amazed" at two things:

In the early 70's in San Diego, a friend had a 68?9? Charger 318. Completely stock, I think it was a 3 speed. AMAZED at how snappy it was to drive.

For about a year, I was "in a state of transition" LOL and had bought a "50 buck" 318 from a friend. Turned out to be a 273!!!! Had that in my 70 RR body with a 4 speed. I was AMAZED at how much power that oil -burnin' POS still had!!!
