What originally began as a Magnum swap (see this thread: http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?p=1970926279#post1970926279) has now turned into a late-model LA swap, starting with this engine:

This 1989 LA 360 ('88-91-style roller cam w/TBI, 308 heads) is a $400 junkyard find (soon to be a bit less; selling off the TBI stuff and the original exhaust logs) from a 1989 B350 conversion/camper Ram Van. No instrument cluster to tell me the mileage, but all cylinders check out at a healthy 145 PSI compression on cranking.

The end result is to have a daily driver 360 with a few judicious upgrades from stock for a more efficient running engine (and, of course, the extra power that comes with it). The goal is to convert the 360 to a carb, and drop it directly in place of a worn-out 1968 318.

That said, following is the build list I've put together. This is more or less my shopping cart and my why-did-I-choose-this reminder list, so if anybody sees a flaw in my present choices below, feel free to speak up.

Build list for the 360 is as follows:
  • LA 360 center-sump (car) oil pan, generic, eBay - (purchased)
  • Melling 72-S2 center sump oil pump pickup tube - (purchased)
  • Edelbrock Performer 318/360 #2176 intake manifold - (purchased)
  • 1992/3 Magnum large-port exhaust manifolds 53006618 + 53006619 - (purchased)
  • New Summit SUM-M08600VS 600cfm Street / Strip carburetor
  • 1970+ style 26" radiator and hoses to match up with '70+ water pump - or earlier style water pump and repair factory radiator.
  • Bouchillon BPE4725 Sanden A/C compressor brackets. The factory 1988-91 style bracket is so badly designed that removal or installation of the compressor or intake manifold requires removal of the fan and alternator bracket at the same time.
  • B&M 10239 externally balanced flexplate (for 1970-1991 LA 360 to 904, not Magnum to 904)
  • Cloyes #C3028 double roller, single groove timing chain - (purchased)
  • Cloyes #95387 timing chain tensioner from the 3.9 V6 - (purchased)
  • Mopar Performance electronic ignition distributor (don't dare mention GM HEI parts, thank you)
  • Fel-Pro KS2113 gasket set - (purchased)
  • Supplement above gasket set with Fel-Pro 1213 intake manifold gaskets - (purchased)
  • Fel-Pro BS40651 two-piece rear main seal, Viton - (purchased)
  • National #3103 front crankshaft seal - (purchased)
  • Factory 340/360 SBM throttle cable bracket for 4V carburetor (FABO wanted ad)
  • Weld extension to factory 2V A904 kickdown rod or source used aftermarket kickdown cable that isn't prohibitively expensive
  • Replacement fan shroud (original is cracked) that won't cost me an arm and a leg
  • Sanden compressor of some kind, when I get to it.
  • The 360 has provisions for bolts and brackets which braced it to the 727 transmission. These are an inch farther forward than the same bolts for the 904. Do I need different brackets?

Anything that I've missed?

Thanks for your help!
