Hello everyone. I have a 318 in a 72 dart. I just added the edelbrock throttle lever adapter to my edelbrock carb and now the throttle cable is too long, the cable would have to bend to reach the stud, and it seems to be secured with that nut and bracket a bit too low now as I've heard that the whole cable should be as close to horizontal as possible. I'm sure this has been talked about extensively and I apologize for the repetitive thread but I couldn't find a clear answer for what to do in my situation. What are my options to fix this? Do I need to get a new hold down bracket which sits a bit higher and a shorter throttle cable? Thank you all for any help provided! Happy holidays!

Loosen the nut on the cable bracket and slide it back.
Whenever I try to slide it back, it causes a severe bend on the cable close to where it goes through the firewall. And the exposed part of the cable, that goes around that choke lever in the pic above, also bends harshly around that lever because of where it's bolted to the cable bracket. There really is no way to slide the cable back anymore without the rest of the cable bending.
This ^^^ . But i would FIRST bend the bracket in more of the upright position. Large channel locks or the likes. I've done it a 100 times (or so it seems...LOL_)
Here, you really should watch these. total of 8 minutes that could save you money, time, and maybe your transmission.

Was this car originally a slant 6 by chance?
No it's originally a 318 car.

Unless you're the original owner, there's a chance somebody swapped a Slant six throttle cable in there. But say that never happened, it's okay if there's a little bit of Bend in your throttle cable.
I've done both slant six cars and 318 cars. Throttle cable from both will work. Just a little more loop in the slant cable.
Yeah I'm not the original owner of the vehicle and the throttle cable just seems very long haha. Maybe it was swapped. I'll give it another try tomorrow and report back. Good to know that a bit of loop is okay. Thank you guys!
Also, this is the throttle cable hold down that I removed from the vehicle just now. I don't think this is an original style 318 2 barrel hold down. I can still probably make this one work, but what do you guys think? Should I just get a 318 2 barrel hold down from online and not mess around with this one?
The hold-down is usually attached to the entire bracket. Like the one in the video I posted above
I see now. So in your video you have the entire bracket and the piece on the left, in the picture I attached. The piece on the right was not originally used on a 318 2 barrel hold down. The previous owner had added it on, and that is what confused me. I couldn't see the piece on the right in your video at all, but now I understand that it was never originally a part of it.
OP your throttle bracket is for a 2 bbl carb and the throttle pivot at the carb is farther forward on a 4bbl carb than a 2bbl. The throttle bracket for a 4bbl small block (340/360) puts the clamp location higher and farther forward (and vertical like shown in previous posts). They sell repops of the 4bbl bracket. None of this will fix the position of the kick down arm with the slot and your 72 version is not adjustable at the carb end. You can find an earlier arm that is adjustable and Edelbrock makes an extension to place the arm in the correct vicinity for a 4bbl carb.
