fires right up in the morning but if you drive 30 minutes, get it up to temp and turn it off and go back and try to start it after an hour it wont start. Has plenty of fuel, no spark... I did the easiest thing first by changing the coil and that didn't work. I had him (my son) pull the ballast wires off and put them on the spare and it started but would stay running, I then told him to put the wires back on the original ballast and it started and ran fine. I'll be working on it tomorrow (Sunday) so any advice would be helpful.
Its 318 with electronic ignition.

Bad ECU ?
Battery cables and connections ?
Good distributor ?
Sounds like a trial and air situation.

You can rule out battery, she cranks fast and easy.... cables are clean... distributor is fairly new (2 years)
Sounds like trial and error for sure!

Chk and clean that connector plug from the dizzy to the coil.
Smash it just a bit with a pair of pliers and try it.
Seen it multiple times before, and actually removed the plug ends and wired it direct on my own car.
Never had a problem with it again.

had the same issue with mine, had the accel coil mounted horizontal - turned it
vertical, main thing was I pulled the distributor and closed the air gap between the
rotor and pick up so I could barely see light -spin it around a few times to make
sure it clears all 8 the same. Mine starts every time now.
