340 Bell Housing Question

working on my 340, 4speed, 70 Dart. started restoration probably 15 years ago and am now working on the engine. The bolts that I have marked for bell housing are 3/8-16X1-1/2". In trying to mount the bell housing, the bolts bottom out before the bell housing is drawn up tight. What am I missing? Need help!!

Sounds like you got some bolts mixed up. I don't remember the length of those bolts, but they should have captured washers on them. You could have possibly mixed them up with intake bolts, which also have the captured washers.

Thanks, I didn't think I had them mixed up but I could have. I thought the intake bolts were shorter than that but not sure. I will check. Thanks again.

Should they be 1-1/4" long for bell housing to block?

I dug this one out of my bolt bucket, and it’s not quite a thread over 1 1/4 long from the underside of the captured washer to the end.
