Does anyone know what the stock factory installed u-joint size is for a '70 to '72 340 Duster with auto trans? 7260 or 7290? Thanks! Rod

There are only two u joints dodge used that i know of , with the exception of 4 wheel drive part #,s 315G, AND 316 Precision numbers .

Thanks for the info guys,I'll have to get a custom shaft made for my car then.My '72 Duster was built with a /6,3 on the tree & an 8 3/4 ,I installed a 440 & a B body 4 speed with a 7290 slip yoke, also installed a 7290 pinion yoke,I figured that if a 340 / auto Duster used the bigger joints that I might find a used one somewhere. On another note, what do you guys think of aluminum driveshafts? Also, can an aluminum shaft be built to use 7290 joints,I want to use the yokes that I already have. Thanks,Rod

Use the AL shaft, have it made with 1330 series and use the 5-796 joints, if you have the 727 slip using the 7290 series, if not then have the shaft made with one end using the 1330 series and the other which ever series that slip is, which is usually 7260, so then you need a 1310 series WY and a 5-789 joint.

Detroits 7290 was there answer to Spicers 1330 series as was the 7260 to spicers 1310 and the det-5380 was the answer to spicers 1410.

Depending on hp and other factors will determine everything else so you need a length, hp, weight, gear, expected top rpm you'll ever see in top gear and is that 1.1 or a od gear
