I'm replacing the headers on my 1970 340 HP with the correct manifolds. Regarding the 1/2 rounded (convex) spacers on the manifold bolts and studs, does the flat part go to the nut or the manifold?

Flat goes towards the manifold. They are made that way to spread the clamping force of the nut over a larger area.

Wow! I've learned a lot, from this thread I appreciate everyone's input, I saw the D48 on ebay, but the price seemed a little high. I guess my other question would be and this may be a stupid one, but I found a Craigslist a guy selling a 273 intake manifold, that came off a 1988, hesaid it would work. But from what I'm gathering here is that it most likely will not, am I correct? Thanks again all!
