I have a 340 short block I recently got that's hanging out in my backyard and I'm planing ahead to see which direction I want to go with it. I was planning on putting my 74 duster that's going to be an autox style car. What's a good hp level to shoot for , for a car that I want to handle. ? I would like to avoid stroking this motor as I already have a 410 stroker in a different duster . is 400-450 hp out of this motor without stroking it possible? Wanted to put a 5 or 6 speed behind it something a little more daily driver friendly or maybe a gear vendors.

Is 400-450hp a good starting point for an autox car ? I know in autox it's all about torque coming out of the corners so just wondering where I should start hp and tq wise.
Thanks for the input guys

400 h.p,425-450 torque awesome combo. What year ,short block? Better yet. Drive a daily driver,a friend's known car,for handling. Be skilled, before the build.Gives you ,a better idea .
