How much lift can a stock 340 spring take.My cams lift is 474 .I can get a set of heads rebuilt with stock springs.Thanks in advance.

i have broke a spring on a 340 with a bigger cam,if i remember right the cam had a .540 lift. i ended up spending alot on machine work to repair the head. i would go with a heavy duty springs , only because i learned a hard lesson by trying to save some money.
I'm running the .474 cam and ran the 340 springs (all tho they were new) for a long time.
As long as every thing is right, Including, "Spring Install Height" You will be fine.
I'm currently running a duel spring. but that's just because they came on the head I bought. the spring pressures were low enough to use( with a .050 retainer)
don't us a 360 spring just a little but to light...............

These are a good spring for the money http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item439dc2d9d0 they are in two engines,one with a mp284/484 and one with a 285/507 cam.They have good open psi and with your lift you can shim the spring to get up to 110 psi on the seat if desired,I run them at the stock height and get 100 even.
