340 Starters

Do All Small Block Automatic Starters Interchange??? I Had To Shim Mine Out About 3/16 Of An Inch To Get Mine To Start. Motor Was A Basket Case, So Im Not Sure If Its Something Else That Went Into Play On Making That Modifaction To Get It To Start, 4 Months Later That Used Starter Went Out. What About The Mini-starter??? Thanks For Any Info.

There must be something wrong. You shouldn't have had to shim it.

I don't know what the deal is with the shimming either. I thought that was a Chevy thing. I Think, in general, all Mopar V8 starters will interchange, mini-starter too. But, if you use the mini, you lose that "Mopar starter sound". (I remember my mom thinking it was a bit strange when I was able to tell her that one of her friends drove a Chrysler product after I heard it start up in the driveway. :-D ) I seem to recall there's a difference in some Hemi starters, but I could be wrong.
