I have a 426 stroker kit (I think its a 426) the bore is 4.08. The block is a 1971 340 Block with stock crank and J Heads VIN. #2780930-340-6

so u have assembley or a rolling assembled balanced stroker shortblock??

is it a forged crank or cast

That's the casting number you are posting, not the VIN. The vin is on the side with oil filter, just above pan rail on a flat machined pad. There is a screw in drain plug right above it.

It is cast and all I have is the stroker kit still in box it has never really been taken out and then I have the 340 stock block and the J heads have been ported and polished. I found the VIN but it is hard to read

wire brush it works pretty good at uncovering the numbers, Casting date is right above it near the motor mount bracket ear
