Trying to verify a block. I think it’s a ‘71 casting but I can’t tell for sure.

Driver’s side is pretty clear - 2418496-360-10

Tough to make out the passenger side but it looks like January 13 or 18 1971?

Here’s the pad on the front. Yes, hard to make out.

Thoughts?

Either the 1 is upside down ...or it's a 4, 1974.

Blue paint, so maybe it was a 360 HP for '75 Dart?

Its 71-74 casting. Early block...looks 74 yr.

Just look at the heads if you wanna know..

915 heads ONLY if 1971/72, 587 or 974 if 1974.

Could be? I really can't tell. Blue paint under the orange, yes.

I have no idea if the heads are original to the block or not, guess I'll find out when it all comes out. It's currently in a mid-'60s C Body so it's kind of a mongrel already. It's getting swapped out for a big block. The person who owns it now has had the car 4 years. He was told by the previous owner it was a 318 so he just presumed all along it was and never bothered to check. I just happened to look up and see the driver's side casting number and realized it was not in fact a 318. It's got a baaaaad knock so hopefully the block is savable.

71 or 74
If block is serviceable
U have a solid platform to build on
Congratulations !!!!

Yeah, it's from 1974. For whatever reason I just wasn't seeing it.

The vin pad which I hadn’t uncovered yet corresponds with the part number pad. 4B302228 - 4 = ‘74, B = Windsor Plant, 302,228 sequence number. The part # pad on the front now also makes sense for a 360 Dart - 4W 360HP; 4 =‘74, W=Windsor, 360HP = 360 4 bbl or E58 package. Cool!

Seems silly that the part number pad and vin pad would have two different designations for the Windsor plant (B vs. W) but they serve different purposes so it sort of makes sense?

Yeah '71-'74 are supposed to be "thicker" and “built on the 340 water jacket” but I'm not sure I buy all that to the extent that you want to search out one of them out for a build up over any other year. Plus, if it's .030" over already that's all out the window anyway.

Thanks for the replies.
