383 Throttle linkage help plz

Can’t believe something so elementary got me but maybe I’m just an idiot and overlooking something here…

‘67 Formula S 383 car with an Eddy RPM manifold and a Holley 3310 750. Using an AR Engineering throttle cable bracket for a high rise manifold, it seems the OEM cable is now too long?? They are usually too short after, right?

1st picture is where the cable in the bracket needs to be. Not enough metal sleeve to clamp down on. 2nd picture is how much slack there is down below.

If I pull the slack out, 3rd pic shows where the cable wants to hook up.

First off, you need the Holley to Mopar linkage adapter to properly locate the cable end (which will also give you the right linkage opening rate/ratio, BTW).

I do have one of those on the shelf, and I actually did place it there just by hand (not bolting it on) just to see where the cable stud would end up, and it actually makes it worse… moving the stud about a 1/2” closer to the cable clamp.

But I’ll bolt it on there and update with pictures to show.
 
Okay, silly question; but I have to ask- the other end of the cable IS connected to the accelerator pedal, taking up any extra slack, right? Basic, but I've done goofier stuff and spent a while scratching my head about it.

it's gonna be wacky if the pedal isn't hooked up and you'll be chasing your tail round the long end of the gate on it.
 
If the carb position on the new intake is different to that of the stock intake [ ie, further to the front or to the rear ], then the cable anchor position will be wrong for that application.
 

looking at your pic of the throttle pedal, it seems like the cable housing isn't clipped into the pedal assembly properly?

that in conjunction with the inner cable not being taut on the pedal rod will cause the whole assembly to move making it darn near impossible to adjust correctly.
 
IMO, way too much here. 1/16"-1/8" max. It does need a bit to make sure the throttle is not restricted to return to full closed position..........

If you're cable is correctly installed, seems you'll need to obtain the adapter Professor suggests and relocate that cable clamp rearward.....

If it helps, here's my '69 with the "Mopar" adapter on a 750. You'll see difference from where your pin is located now. Notice the slight angle downward for the pull as well......

There are stock adapters that can raise and clamp the cable further back.....

Okay. the cable is correctly installed into the pedal. There’s a plastic clip that retains it.

Where can I find that piece? That might do the trick.
