I have a 1967 383 standard bore I am planning to build. I am going to use the stock forged crank. I have a set of 440 rods for floating .990 pins already .

So the question is can I use these 440 rods in my stock stroke 383 with the right pistons? And what would the benefits be to a longer rod and a shorter piston. Anybody know what pistons to get? Planning on a zero deck height for the pistons.

I think your going to need to get custom pistons made. That is what I did. I reduced the rotating weight by just over 1 lb by using 440 length rods in my 383. Would of been a little more if I used I-beam rods and/ or heads with smaller combustion chambers.

you will need custom pistons like if your using a 400 block,i know a racer that has a 383 and using 440 crank

Ya, I heard it gives a better rod ratio or something. And also reduces the rotating assembly weight. Thought it would be cool since i have everything but the pistons.
