4.56 vs 5.13s

ditto on the converter... Theres alot of time in getting a good converter. Get a good one around $1,000.

Theres also a couple tenths in an aluminum drum and needle bearings in your 727 and a couple more in an aluminum gutted 904.

wonder if i took my converter out and had the stall changed to 5000 or should i just by a 8 in converter?

I'm running 9:1 360 with 508 Mopar cam, same gears and slicks as you are. My Demon was using a 9.5" 3500 stall, switched to 8" 4600, car went 6 tenths and 5 MPH quicker in the 1/8. I race 1/4 mile tracks. Right now I go through the lights at 6200 at 114 MPH. Swap the converter, leave the gears alone.

what converter did you buy?

I used a Turbo action 8" 5000-5200 You really get what you pay for in a converter. I never had any luck changing rpm on a used converter. Thats just me.

I went with an ATI 8" Treemaster I believe. It stalls exactly like I asked. Go with 8" if you can, even though the stall is higher, it slips less at the topend than the 9.5" 3500 that I was running. It's about $900. The car is much more reactive now, it pulls the front tires 2 to 3 inches on a good pass.

I had the stall set at 4600 which is a low as they will go on an 8" I shift at 5500 to 5800. On the chassis dyno, my peak torque is at 4600, so that's where I set it. My peak HP is at 5400, but motor will pull hard to 6500. Don't go too high on stall, or your motor will be running above your peak.

thanks man

hi, I ran 5.13 gears changed to 5.57 , dropped .3 tenths in 1/4 mile, gained one mph in speed. in 1/8 mile was bout 1 1/2 tenths. mph was faster also. gear ratio is leverage, I ran 29.5 tires with 5.13, 30" tire with 5.57 gears. like anything else need to tune it to get gains. if gear ratio wasn't important, then should run 3.91. leverage is basic physics, can move more and easier with longer lever. just food for thought. btw , 340 duster car
Where did you acquire the 5.57’s? Needing some myself.

Used 4.30, 4.56, and 5.13 no difference in ET. The 5.13 made the 60 ft erratic. I race 1/8 mile(Duster 340 7.5 ET 90 MPH 1.6 60ft) and I have seen numerous guys swap in deep gears thinking that they will shave off some time, never works.
I raced a hemi superstocker back in the day, for 14 yrs. It ran faster w/ a 5;38 than a 5: 13. It was tubbed and had 14 to 16" slicks on it all the time . Depends on the combination.

I'm guessing your around 3300lbs and 350hp without knowing what heads you have..... with 29.5/5.13 gear using 2 shifts you'll trap the 1/8th@5000 in 7.8 [email protected] 4.56 it'll trap@4500 which is no good...5000 ain't the best, 5500 would be 5.57's, 6000 would be a 6.18 gear according to the calc?
1/4 no's look like this
60 Foot E.T. : 1.71
1/8 Mile E.T. : 7.76
1/8 Mile Trap Speed : 87.54
1/4 Mile E.T. : 12.30
1/4 Mile Trap Speed : 109
1/4 Mile Trap RPM : 6,368+

ok so thats 5400 [email protected]/92mph....w5.13's...and 4800 w/4.56's
440hp na sounds pretty strong to me at 9.5CR and a .520/.540 cam, must have some good heads on there.
