I have a 74 duster that is originally a slant six auto and im making it a small bllck with a 4 speed Im lookin to get a list of everything im going to need to make my car a 4 speed also I found a set of pedals in a junk yard out of a 65 valiant will they fit in my car?
Thank you

Im pretty sure the early A pedals will not fit, although I have never tried myself.

Of course you will need the short tail A body transmission, the aluminum bellhousing, any year A body pedals from '67 - '76 will work. You will need the shifter and shift rods, the floor hump, z-bar and mechanical clutch linkage, clutch and flywheel. This place can help you with everything you need:

these members are selling a set of pedals that will work:

he has the flywheel and bellhousing too:

these parts are all pretty readily available used.

No on the pedals.

67-76 Yes and preferably a 70+ set with clutch lockout switch

If it's a U-pull yard, I'd get as much of the 63-66 pedals and linkage to resell and fund your swap. Grab the floor hump too.

You can swap the brake pedal on the early clutch pedals to make it work, if you really wanted to. The early brake goes around the column to the right, the later ones to the left, but the clutch pedal and bracket are the same (minus any braces from the 340 cars).

Buddy of mine bought a Duster that had been converted to a 4 speed, and always thought the brake was funny and kind of hung up when coming back up off the floor. When he tore it down later, he found out whomever did the conversion used the early pedals and beat the column jacket in on the right side to get it to work (for the most part).

If you find the right auto brake pedal, you can even chop the pad down and make your own later 4 speed brake pedal. That's how my friend fixed his problem. They aren't all the same, the ones with a 90 degree twist at the pad really don't work. Just look at a later 4 speed brake pedal and find one that looks the same but with a bigger pad.

Welcome to FABO. Might be able to find some parts in the classifieds here. Good luck with your project, and there are a few members in the local area here that might be able to help.

Thank you so my best bet is 70and up? and as far as the list of 4 speed parts what are the year ranges for things I can use? Can I use anything from the 65 valiant?

nothing really from the early A -body. I would grab all the 4 speed stuff from it and resale all of it though. 67-76 is the years of parts you want.
