Just finished up another mild street 408 build, used the new AFR smallblock head. Quality was really good, valve job and guide clearance were good out of the box. No dyno for this one unfortunately, but she runs great.

How come no dyno time? Owner wasn’t interested?

What lifters? No trouble with them bleeding off? Doesn’t look like you bushed the bores. Your opinion on the AFR heads is reassuring. I will seriously consider them for my next 340 build.

Howard's lifters, but they are made by morel I believe. Did not bush the lifter bores, and havnt had any bleed off issues that I have seen so far.

I think Howards are re-boxed Morel's. The oil band is lower to eliminate the bleed off that cheaper rollers for SBM suffer from. I wasn't gonna bush my 273 either until we found that one worn out bore. Drop the lifter in.....and it was like throwing a hot dog down a hallway. I stole that saying from a friend who said that about some ol gal he picked up one night!
