How much does it cost to get the crank, pistons, rods ect. for a 416 stroker? Would it be cheaper to buy a kit or to buy the pieces individually?
Thanks.

Brett, thats a cast crank. Its still a screamig deal.
I dont remember if it comes with rods or not though. Most of the kits are around $2000.

This one is a nice kit but alot more money

340 Kit - CALLIES Forged Crank - Complete 416 rotating assembly

Save time and money with are new stroker assembly for 340 engines. We use CALLIES Forged crank, Diamond Racing forged pistons with pins, Eagle Rods, Speed-Pro rings and Clevite 77 rod & main bearings.

Engine Size: 340 = 416 C.I.D.

340CALLIES-KIT$1,895.00

408. The 360 has a smaller stroke then the 340. It gets its extra cubes from a larger stroke. 3.58 over the other small blocks short 3.31.

So if you use a 4" stroke in bolth the 340 ends up bigger.

A 340 block can be bored to 4.070". The 360 block, unless it is an early one, can only go 4.030" (actually 4.040" is what the Mopar engine book says, but due to core shift not all blocks can go that far).

Some of the early 360 will go .100 over. But if your going to bore anything more the .030" sonic checking needs to be done. I talked to a guy at a show once whos 360 was suppose to be .070" over. thats 372 cubic inches,

You can also turn a 360 crank down to 340 main size and run a .070" 360 pistin in a 340 block bored .030" to get the same 372 cubes.

... wouldnt that just be a 360 with smaller mains then?
ok, so, a 340 is kind of a cross between a 360 and a 318? 318 stroke, and roughly 360 bore?

yes it would be a .070" 360 with smaller mains.

The 340 is a 318 with a bigger bore. 4.04 Vs 3.90

The 360 is a 4" bore 3.58 stroke.

is it now... what about othre differences? the heads have bigger ports and runners? knowing this i suppose i can do a lot more with my 318 than i had originally thought. are the mains the same size on a 340 and 318?
and... could i use a 360 crank in my 318 if i had the mains turned down, would i have to use 360 con. rods..? mebbe i should just start a separate thread...

Yes, you can turn a 360 crank down. One potential problem is the oiling holes in the crank mains may not be centered properly. Not sure if that is a big deal or not. You could re-use your existing rods, but 360 rods are stronger, and heavier. The biggest problem is you would need to have custom pistons made. Last time I looked, there were no off-the-shelf pistons for a stroker 318.

i started a new post about this.. im sure you have looked into this stuff havent you? iirc, your dart has a 318 right now doesnt it?

Ohio crankshaft has a kit for $950

are their cranks all forged? because they want $595 for just the crankshaft, but jegs has a 318/340 main 4" stroke cast crank for $350

Diamond Pistons has forged stroker pistons for 318s with the 4" stroker crank on the shelf now.

P.s. I just picked up a 318 Roller motor

How many thousandths do you have to turn the 360 crank to 318 mains?
