ive searched the net everywhere , including my FSM and i cannot for the life of me find out what the 2 - maltese cross - X means on the pad. i know its the main journal size (and rod?). i know the 7T440E is 1977 trenton 440 cast crank and the 5 11 is the date code. but what is the rest? also, what is the numerical number for the standard size of the main and rod journals on a 73 and up cast crank ? and do the 2 + X represent over or under size main (and rod?) journals ? i cant find squat for info . thanks guys

The Maltese Cross and an X = 0.010 undersized crankshaft.

X = oversized valve guides.

See here for decoding, it took me 1 minute to find, LMAO. :poke:

OK, this is what I see here: http://www.imperialclub.com/Repair/Engine/identification.htm

Information on the 440:
Question from Vincent (1967):
I have a 1967 Imperial LeBaron with a 440. I would appreciate it if someone could tell me what the cross symbol on the identification pad means. I have only seen this once before on a 440 engine that came out of a Dodge police car.
Reply from Rodger:
The Maltese cross means you have a bearing that is a different size. The cross should be followed by a number ( or two ). The number(s) will be the bearing(s) that have a different size. It can happen with any factory engine.

I know it says the number follows the Maltese cross but it could be that 2 of the bearings are a different size than the rest OR that number 2 bearing is a different size.

I'm betting on the latter. It seems as though on some factory engines if there was some damage on the crank they would just machine it a little to "clean" it up and use a different size bearing.

Pop it apart and measure them, I'll bet that is the case.
