Very close on mine also, same covers and headers. I have maybe 1/8 inch, I can get the valve covers off, but it’s close. I like the orange between the fins. 72 demon440 your car is a thing of beauty. Good luck with it.
I remember when I had fenderwells my brake fluid would practically boil. I see you have a heat shield.
I was having problems with brake fluid leaking from the master lid. I checked it with a heat gun and it was 300 degrees. I made up the shield and it is now about 150. I moved all the brake lines out of the corner and had the headers coated. They now run across the front of the k frame. Seems better now.
Very nice! I also have a 72 with a 440.... what headers did you go with and your steering box? are those headers ceramic coated?
I have tti ceramic coated headers and stock steering box. I used an ididit tilt column that fits tightly. Hopefjlly going to fire it up this weekend depending on the weather. First time it will have ran since probably 2006
No, it is actually a stainless exhaust elbow that a buddy tig welded together. 2" reduced to 1.5 at the fuel cell
I have a Indy headed 440 in my 71 Demon with TTI 2 inch headers and I'm having issues with the steering coupler hitting the header tube..The coupler is the 3 inch piece ..Did you run into the same issue and if so what did you do to fix the problem?.. I've seen where some have used the flaming river universal joint but I really hate to cut a factory original manual steering shaft..
I am using an aftermarket u joint. Not sure if the pics do justice but the rear tube is the close one for me.
are you using the new borgenson steering box? If so they have a coupler to use but yeah have to mod the steering ... wouldn’t that be a better route than header dimples? Also I have a question for you...got 2” header... what power is your 440 putting out? I am debating on 1.75” or 2” fire mine
My car has manual steering I've looked at the flaming river steering box which is a bit smaller but don't know if it would change the positioning of the coupler..I've not had my 440 put on the dyno or ran it yet but it should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 630HP..I wanted 1 7/8 but TTI didn't make those and went with 2 inch as I didn't want to run the 1 3/4 because my Indy heads have a tall intake runner and didn't want to restrict the engine on the upper end...This engine will probably be shifted at about 6,600 rpm's...Between 1 3/4 and 2 inch on your build depends on how your building your engine..Type of heads?..Cam size?..Intake?..Compression?
I know..It does suck but it won't be a big dimple if I do it..Just enough to give me around an 1/8th of an inch..I'll dress it up and paint with some good high heat cast aluminum paint..
