I am getting a free 1989 dodge pickup with a tbi 360 and an a518 transmission, is it possible to change the output shaft/tailhousing on these? I want overdrive fo' my duster!

Yes it is, however, I think it may be easier and very well possibly cheaper to just get a standard 518 to swap in.
An A-500 is the 904 version of the OD trans and smaller for easier fitment.
You could sell the truck/part it out or the funds.
