Hi everyone.

Wondered how easy or not it is to live with a 5.7 Hemi pickup. I have an eye on a '22 four door longbed with the 5.7 and 8 speed automatic. My biggest worry is how much it can tow. I routinely tow 10K plus with my big block Silverado, but it is now laid up so I'm needing a replacement. I keep hearing how everyone hates a longbed now but the ones I see for sale are very expensive, as if it's a selling point. What was the last year you could get a straight shift with any engine? Thanks everyone.

I had an 08 5.7, 1500, 4 dr, w/3.92 gears. I put a MDS removal tuner in it. I towed my 24 ft enclosed w/65 coronet sw in it. no problem. It had 212k when I sold it. Got 16-17 mpg empty. I put an air bag set up on it, to level it out. I now have a 12, 5.7 w/6 spd and it has a plug in cartridge that plugs into the obd slot. Does not help much. 16-17 in summer and 13-14 in winter. My biggest dislike about my 12, is that it is coil spring rear end. I put the little orange air bags inside the springs and i just as well shoved them up my azz. Put a GOOD set of bags on the rear, where you can level the trailer, get the tuner/cartridge that locks out the mds(if equipped), and tow away. Make sure you get suregrip in it. I have 3 9 1/4 sg's here in garage and NONE will fit my 12.

I have a 22 Ram 1500 quad cab with a 5.7 & 2wd. Mine has a towing capacity of 11,590lbs, with a 3.92 rear gear. Trucks with the 3.21 have less capacity so if you’re looking at a specific truck, you need to check which rear axel is has if you want to tow 10k.

I don’t actually tow with mine so I can’t give you any personal experience information.

If you get the “ limited “ model they have factory air bag suspension in four corners and self level when you hook up, tows like a dream, mine is a 2019 Ram with factory trailer tow which includes the 3:92 LSD, I think mine is rated at 12000 if I remember right. it’s a 1500 4wdr the tow haul feature shuts off the MSD, my mileage isn’t as good as stated above but I’m not afraid to pass while towing , trailer tires are rated to 75mph so I don’t go above that.

My ‘22 Laramie 4WD 5.7L E-torque has been a very pleasant surprise. It’s quiet, gets great gas mileage, and has amazing power, even while towing. My travel trailer weighs close to 6k loaded and poses no challenges even over 10k passes in Colorado. Ride and handling are both good, although it is a little “twitchier” than I would like. But I think that is a function of the short bed and wheelbase. You just have to pay more attention to it. I got really spoiled by my 2000 Diesel 4WD Ford F250 crew cab long bed/wheelbase. It was glued to the road. But most important, the Ram has lumbar support on the passenger side which really helps my spouse on long trips. She’s has several back surgeries, so that’s important. I traded my ordered-new ‘21 Diesel Gladiator Rubicon in on this truck, mainly because of the road noise, high oil temps, and the fact that I was afraid the motor wouldn’t last. My neighbor has the same truck as mine in a ‘21 with the same diesel as the Jeep, and has had no problems with it towing 7,000+ pounds.

Thanks guys all good information. I didn't think I'd be looking for another truck but here I am. I've owned my Silverado for years but I'm really liking the Ram these days.
