Ok so I am running a 360 4 speed duster 3.55 years right now but I would like to go to a procharged 360 5 speed manual with 3.93 years. what are my options as far as a 5 speed swap

Thinking about a t-56 magnum of a trans out of a ram of Dakota.

T-56 is a 6 speed not a 5. People have been waiting for the passion 5 speed which is a direct bolt in with no cutting plus youd be on a long wait list. But it would be faster to put in a 6 speed and I'd stick with the tried and true.

6 speed it fine little overkill for what I am doing but I like how it does not have shift linkages but its about 3700 for the kit.

Ram and Dak had the NV3500 3550 and 4500. You could do a an R154 or AR5 swap, have fun!

Here is some inspiration for that 3500 behind a 360 everyone calls weak:

Why would you go from a 4 speed with 3:55 gears to a 5 speed and 3:93 gears. Do you know what the gear ratios on the 5 speed of your choice is going to be and do you know what the gear ratios on your 4 speed are?

I have heard the 3500 what the 4500 and ar5 trans

I am planning on 575 crank hp

The AR5/MA5, car/truck are the daughters of the old school R154 supra trans. Google it up, there is a swap thread on the supra fourms about it, you have to modify the shift linkage to the R154 location, it connects by way of the ax-15 bell-housing. Definitely not a bolt on, but can be done on the cheap, and hold a s*it ton of power.

Nice video yet, I have one question. Wouldn't you think that power shifting is somewhat different than the shifting in that video where letting you foot off the accelerator has less strain on that transmission??

Here's a plug for a guy I met at Spring Fling, Geoff Gerko. He makes conversion parts for swapping 5- and 6-speeds into muscle cars, including modified trans cases, bellhousings and crossmembers. Ask him about your application and see what he recommends.

R154 Ratio’s 1st 3.30:1 2nd 1.95:1 3rd 1.34:1 4th 1.00:1 5th 0.75:1 Rev 3.20:1

I really like the idea of a 3.3 first gear and a set of 3.23's out back! Great take off ratio with reasonable fuel economy on the highway.

Play = Pay. Like 5-6K, just for parts. You can buy a bunch of gas for that.

The only real economical options are what I stated earlier, at the expense of labor. For your purposes; can the 5 speed keep the 4. Go slower on the freeway. Keep out of the pedal when your trying to get mileage. Empty the trunk. All these things help.

Plus, It's not like it's your commuter, for that there are plenty of inexpensive cars that get 30-40+ MPG. You can put the difference in the tank of your beast and be happy. Don't let gear lust consume you.

I run a 3.91 with a TKO-500 (0.68 OD). 3000 RPM @ 85 MPH. Four gears for the track, 116 MPH @ 6000 RPM. Got 18 MPG with the A/C on, going back and forth to Carlisle this year.

What about a tko 600

they have bell housing to mount ford/GM tko-600 to a small block mopar but not sure what I would do as far as a clutch.

well if you really wanna go that route then you might want to check out www.keislerauto.com and see what they have to offer. I know they just came out with their direct fit 5 speed. Supposedly no cutting or custom fabbing anything. All inclusive kits, but at what cost? They don't list any prices because they don't want to scare you away.

I bought my R-154, Dakota bell housing, toyota driveshaft (needed for adapting), master cylinder, slave cylinder, new throwout bearing, new pilot bearing (made a custom adapter to run supra bearing), and 4 speed pedal setup for about $1000. I figure another $800 - $1000 all said and done. This is with my labor. I wouldn't do this if I was having a shop do it because it wouldn't be economically feasible.
